Waypoints Upton - National Finalist in The Healthcare Design Awards 2016

Waypoints’ Care Home at Upton has been selected as a finalist in the Pinders Healthcare Design Awards 2016 which has been running since 1999. The Awards aim to promote and recognise the very best developments in all types of care-related property.

The Award categories are selected to recognise the achievements of the widest range of designers, developers and operators. Care establishments of all sizes, types and locations have the opportunity of entering. Waypoints Upton has been selected as one of 3 finalists in the category for ‘Best New Care Home – Elderly’.


Andrew Baxendine, Waypoints Group Managing Director said ‘A key distinction at Waypoints is the freedom of movement which is actively encouraged amongst our residents. This greatly enhances their sense of wellbeing and dignity. This is achieved to the highest level in Upton which is a ‘best of class’ home with a trademark Waypoints’ design that includes;

  • Five wings connected through a light and airy central hub containing a;
    • large atrium entrance with an impressive reception area and street scene with a 60’s hairdressing salon and ye Olde Sweet Shoppe
    • ground floor Bistro and more formal first floor Restaurant which serve food throughout the day
    • superb fully equipped cinema room
    • ground floor entrance to a large decking area and the stunning gardens incorporating a larger woodland garden where attended walks can be taken at any time
    • first and second floor balconies with stunning views across to the Purbecks.

  • Large bedrooms equipped with fabulous en suite facilities including one double room.

  • Wide corridors without obstructions which end with welcoming lounge and pantry areas so that residents are not distressed with their walk finishing at a dead end.

  • Uniquely, Upton includes two retail units incorporating a Costa Coffee and Rowlands Pharmacy. The public area just outside of these retail units is somewhere where families can enjoy a drink and something to eat or when the weather permits and tables and chairs are placed outside they can watch the world pass by.’

As a finalist Waypoints received a cheque of £500 which was donated to Admiral Nurses in Partnership with Dementia UK.
